In my redesign of the Paris 2024 Pictograms, I drew inspiration from the Cubist movement. I wanted to infuse the symbols with a sense of dynamism and energy, capturing not only the sports themselves but also the athleticism and movement of the athletes.
The decision to revamp these pictograms stemmed from widespread dissatisfaction with the original designs, which leaned heavily towards abstract representations focused on equipment rather than the human element. I felt compelled to address this by emphasizing both the athletes and their actions within each sport.
By incorporating elements of Cubism, I was able to create pictograms that not only depict the sports but also convey the passion and vigor of those who participate in them. Each symbol is a celebration of human movement and athleticism, inviting viewers to connect with the essence of each sport on a deeper level.
